Highlights

Sorry for our long absence from the blog. Due to illness, spousal absence, sleepless nights and life in general, blogging kept getting pushed back.

So, to catch you up, here are just a few things that have happened since we last blogged on February 27.

• Jeremiah turned 6 months old and now weighs over 17 pounds.


• We sent a request to the adoption agency and our lawyer for Jeremiah’s adoption to be final. (Nebraska State Law says the child has to be in your home for 6 months before this can happen.) We don’t know our court date yet—probably in April or May sometime, but you can be sure we’ll blog about it when we do!
  
• Jeremiah’s dining habits have grown to include green beans, sweet potatoes, squash, applesauce, bananas and pears. So far the only one he hasn’t really liked was the green beans.


• Jon has been gone from home 10 nights (including tonight). He’s been in places like Scottsdale, AZ; Roanoke, VA; Billings, MT; and Santa Barbara, CA. Tonight, he’s in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. But don’t envy him too much—he’d rather be home.


• All three of us have battled winter colds. The doctor called Jeremiah’s illness bronchiolitis, which sounds a lot more serious than it was. It was hard to see him sick, though, and we’re glad that he’s finally over it.


• I agreed to organize a women’s tea for our church in April. I’ve already had a fun time planning with other ladies. Organizing big events/projects is one of my favorite things to do. And, of course, I just love teas!


• My parents came to visit for a few days before calving season starts in earnest and they can’t go anywhere. We had a good time shopping and just hanging out. I know Jeremiah likes spending time with both sets of grandparents—he gets loads of attention.


• Jeremiah is now walking all over the place and has said his first words. Just kidding! But he does like to put his mouth on my cheek and blow raspberries. Don’t know if he’s trying to give me a kiss or not, but it still melts my heart—and leaves my cheek rather damp.

Happy Easter, everyone. He is risen!

A Visit

Grandma and Grandpa K came to visit this last weekend. We really enjoyed having them here and hearing about Mom's mission trip to Haiti the previous week. They both commented on much Jeremiah is growing. He's got some teeth starting to come in as well. While it's nice to see him getting some teeth the process isn't any fun. Enjoy the pictures all.

Rollin Rollin Rollin

Jeremiah has begun to be mobile. He has learned how to roll over. This is pretty exciting for us and for him it can be frustrating sometimes. The problem, right now, is he has only figured out how to roll over one way. So when he gets to a wall or some other obstacle he is stuck and lets us know about it. We're sure he'll figure it out and before we know it he'll be up and walking. Hopefully we'll have a video of him rolling over soon.

Rolling Around

Jeremiah finally did it--after a month of rolling three-quarters of the way and going back, he decided to go for it and roll all the way over. Last Thursday was the day, and he's now rolling a little bit from place to place. We know it won't be long before he's rolling all over the living room, which is why Jon put up our stairway gate this morning.

This will be a new challenge for us to keep up with. In all the reading I've done of parenting material, one statement comes to my mind again and again. "Just when you think you've got it figured out, they go to the next stage and you have to start all over again." That is so true--at least in my now 5 months of experience. What about all of you long-time parents out there? Is it still true no matter what the age/stage in life? Jon's mom is our only consistent feedback person, but we'd love to see comments from the rest of you. You don't have to register to leave a comment--just mark that you want to be anonymous. Mommy's Day Out

Last Friday night and Saturday, Jon watched Jeremiah while I got to go hang out with other grown-ups at a Women's Slumber Party for our church. It was a fun night of talking, laughing, eating--and oh, yeah, there was some "spiritual" stuff thrown in there as well. We heard a couple of really good testimonies about how God had worked in two women's lives, as well as devotionals about having an undivided heart when it comes to serving God and having heart attitudes that are pleasing to God.

I had been hoping to get a full night's sleep, but that was not to be. It had more to do with the high school hockey team staying on our floor than the women talking late into the night.

Of course, Jon and Jeremiah got along just fine, as I knew they would. It was nice to have the break, though, and to go 24 hours without getting spit-up on my clothes. But I was ready to come home and hang out with my guys.

These pictures aren't from the slumber party. But I know those aren't the kind of pictures that visitors to this blog want to see anyway. All I hear when I talk to the grandparents are "keep those pictures coming" and "more pictures please." So, here you go.

And I have an exciting announcement that I've been dying to share for the last couple of months--I'm going to be an aunt! Yes, I already have two nephews, but now there will be another niece or nephew on the other side of the family. My brother and his wife are expecting their first child in August, about a week before Jeremiah's first birthday. So far, mom-to-be is doing good, and we're all excited to welcome this new little one when he or she decides to make an appearance.

My friend Caleb

Last week Jon and I were able to take a CPR class through Duncan, and my friend Tonya graciously watched Jeremiah. Her little boy, Caleb, just turned one year old, and she sent me some pictures of what they did while we were at class. Caleb probably "played" a little more than Jeremiah, but it looks like they had fun together!

In other news, Jeremiah is now around 16 lbs. and giving my arms a workout whenever we go somewhere. He has discovered his fingers, and Jon and I often catch him examining his hand, turning it in different directions as he checks it all out. He's also learned he can make more noises, like a screaming noise that he's currently making as I write. That's one I hope he soon outgrows!
